More than 160 years after the first Union soldiers were held on the same soil as prisoners during the Civil War, a small crowd gathered on the front lawn of Lynchburg’s E.C. Glass High School on Sunday to unveil a historical marker, sealing the Virginia property’s place in Civil War history. The site was chosen as a transit POW camp in June 1862 because of its proximity to the railroad and its remote location. -- Article
