The Maine Historical Society has visually represented the deaths of members of Maine regiments with a memorial wall that is part of the society’s exhibit, “This Rebellion: Maine and the Civil War,” on display through May 26. Inspired in part by the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., the wall is 40 feet long, 7 feet high, and, on nine panels with four columns on each, contains the names of more than 8,500 members of Maine regiments who died during the war, as well as names of those missing in action. Among those listed on the wall are four brothers.
